BOTOX and Dysport

BOTOX and Dysport are injectable wrinkle relaxers.

BOTOX® Cosmetic Injections

BOTOX Cosmetic is a simple, non-surgical treatment administered by medical staff that can temporarily smooth moderate to severe wrinkles in people from 18 to 65 years of age. It is the first treatment of its type approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). While individual results may vary, usually one 10-minute treatment will yield a noticeable improvement that will last for several months. BOTOX Cosmetic (onabotulinumtoxinA) is a purified protein produced by the Clostridium botulinum bacterium, which reduces the muscle contractions that cause lines in the forehead and wrinkles around eyes.

Dysport© Injections

Dysport has been used in patient care in the UK since 1991, and is FDA approved for use in the United States. Dysport (abobotulinumtoxinA) is a botulinum product similar to Botox. It is delivered by injection, but the dosing is not the same, and should not be compared unit to unit. Dysport has been reported by some to act more quickly than Botox, but that varies from person to person. In certain situations Dysport has been shown to spread farther from the injection site than Botox. It is important that your provider understand the specific properties of each botulinum product and uses the one best suited for you.

The risk of adverse reactions is low, but every person reacts slightly differently to injectables. There may be a slight bruising at the injection site, and possible redness or swelling, but normal activities can be resumed immediately. Full results will be seen between 3 and10 days after treatment.
